5 steps to detox your home

Want a healthier home in 2019? Follow our five simple steps to detox your home

Walking through the front door to a clean and healthy home every day is the dream, but life is busy, and even with quicker ways to clean it’s not always possible. However, there are some very simple steps you can take to help make your home healthier and cleaner without much effort at all.

We love simple changes that offer a healthier way of living, and our top five tips will cleanse and detox your home for the New Year… but first, what is detoxing your home all about?

What does 'detoxing your home' mean?

Detoxing is a relatively new concept that is all about ridding the body (or in this case the home) of unhealthy or toxic substances. You might be thinking, “what harmful substances could I possibly have in my home?”, but in our modern homes with our modern materials, it’s almost unavoidable that our home’s health is impacted, most notably our indoor air quality.

When we think of air pollution, a busy city with exhaust fumes tends to spring to mind, but according to the EPA, indoor air is generally five-times more polluted than the air we breathe outside1. Considering that we spend 90% of our time indoors, making the air around you as clean as possible is a good thing.

Not sure where to start? Here are five very simple steps to help detox your home in 2019.

1. Throw open those windows

Whether it’s warm outside or not, opening your windows for a least an hour a day is a great way to help improve your indoor air quality. Chemicals and synthetic materials are found in everyday items that take up residence all over the home, so throw open your windows and let the clean air circulate for a healthier indoor space.

2. Bring the outdoors in

We’re not all naturals when it comes to gardening, but with many indoor plants offering chemical-filtering and detoxifying benefits2, bringing the outdoors in is a great way to refresh the air in your home and has the added benefit of looking nice too.

3. Take off your shoes

If you actually stopped to think about where you and your family have traipsed around all day…the ‘take your shoes off in the house’ rule would probably already be in place. Plus, your hallway is what shoe storage was made for – so slip them off, relax, and enjoy cleaner floors and cleaner air throughout your home.

4. Find a cleaner way to clean

Cleaning your home is all about making it safe and healthy, but quite often the product people use are neither safe nor healthy. The solution is quite simple, clean your home without chemicals. Switching to a product like ENJO means cleaning your home with nothing more than fibre technology and water. Patented fibres remove dirt and bacteria more effectively with a simple, wet, wipe and dry – making your home a cleaner, healthier place to be.

5. Let there be light

We’re lucky we don’t have to deal with dark and gloomy days too often, but throwing open the blinds and letting the natural light stream in has so many benefits. Firstly, it improves our mood and wellbeing, plus natural light is good for the home acting as a natural antiseptic3.
