This is the story of how ENJO began
Not in a boardroom. In nature.
Before we became a global brand, ENJO was just one person looking at a problem and refusing to accept the usual solution.
-
Protecting waterways
It began with an oil spill on Lake Constance in Austria.
Friedrich Engl saw the damage it caused and asked a simple question:
Why does cleaning up pollution have to create more pollution?
-
Rethinking how fibres work
Friedrich got to work, creating textiles that could soak up oil from water. He tested, tweaked, failed, and tried again.
-
The breakthrough
In 1985, it happened. Friedrich had developed a textile that could separate oil and grease naturally.
He proved that cleaning could be done without chemicals, and so the first ENJOtex Fibre was born.
-
Turning an idea into a movement
As a trained chef, Friedrich’s son Johannes saw the potential of this new fibre. He helped turn a clever invention into a complete cleaning system, one that could make a real difference in family homes.

Our guiding promise
Today, ENJO continues to evolve. But our promise remains the same.
Every product. Every decision. Every improvement. It all starts with protecting our environment and the people who inhabit it.
The Choices That Define ENJO
Why we walked away from chemicals
For ENJO, saying no to chemicals was our responsibility.
What we use in our homes doesn’t disappear. It flows into our waterways, lingers in the air, and touches the surfaces our families live on every day.
We believe protecting people’s health and the planet is part of the job.
Why we refuse to settle for ‘good enough’
At ENJO, “good enough” has never been good enough.
Our values guide the choices we make daily. We choose sustainability over speed, integrity over convenience, and purpose over shortcuts. Even when it’s harder, slower, or more expensive. That means building products that last, saying no to misaligned partnerships, and refusing quick fixes and empty promises.
‘Good enough’ just can’t keep up!
Why thousands of Australians choose ENJO
People come to ENJO for sustainable cleaning. But they stay for everything that comes with it.
We hear from families that can now clean their home in half the time. From customers who’ve realised their skin irritation, lung inflammation and headaches don’t need to be ignored.
ENJO customers are choosing healthier living, less waste, and faster cleaning. That’s what keeps them coming back.

We put our waste to work
We refuse to add to the waste problem, so we went searching for solutions.
What we found was UPPAREL Australia, so we partnered with them to round out our product life cycle.
Every ENJO Fibre can be returned for reuse with UPPAREL. Once there, each one is broken down, compressed, and treated to become part of a revolutionary product called UPtex. This material can then be used in a wide array of applications, including signage, homewares, acoustic panelling, and packaging.
